Hakodate 4 - Ashibetsu

 

Ashibetsu

PoWs worked in Coal Mine for Jisakuno Mining.

Australians arrived on the Naruto Maru and sent to Zentsuji before being transferred to Hakodate #4.

On May 9, 1945, American from Wake plus some captured aviators, were sent to China on the Nitta Maru. They were then taken from Shaghai POW camp by box cars to Nanking and Peking for a month. In June, the were sent down through Korea to the port of Pusan then on to Hokodate Branch Camp, arriving on 5 July 1945. The officers handled braces for a coal mine above ground.
