1941/11/08 - Arrived Halifax and transferred to USS West Point with 55th Infantry Brigade, consisting of 1st Cambridgeshires and 5th Beds and Herts (3250 troops).

 1941/11/10 - They sailed from Halifax in Convoy William Sail 12X. Sailing via Trinidad and Cape Town.

1941/12/08 - Japan entered the war by attacking Pearl Harbour and Malaya.

1941/12/25 -  Mount Vernon left convoy with the 53rd Infantry Brigade, sailing for Singapore in convoy DM1

1941/12/27 - Arrived Bombay, now became Task Force 14.2

1942/01/02 - Sailed from India destination Singapore in Task Force 14.2

1942/01/29 - Arrived Keppel Harbour Singapore

1942/02/15 - Singapore Surrendered to the Japanese

    Arrived in Ban Pong and were marched to Tha Sao via Lat Ya and Tha Dan, arriving November 11th.

    At Tha Sao they were formed into IJA 'L' (6) Bn and worked clearing the jungle between the hills North Wang Pho and Tha Sao (source Ken Porters book 'Once I build a Railroad'), although some worked only on the service road (Source Phillip Meminsky IWM).

    He is listed on the roster  as 5088. Sailed to Japan in the Hakushika Maru. This was a Group 4 party of 253 that sailed  with Captain Thornton.

    Japan Party 2 consisted of - Asaka Maru, Hakushika Maru, Hofuku Maru, Rashin Maru and Sekiho Maru.

    The Hofuku Maru in the convoy being sunk. Here the ship waited for a new convoy.

    Stayed close to coast via Takao in the south and Keelung in the north.

    Convoy attacked by the submarine ‘Barbel’ although some escorts were sunk, the Hakushika Maru carried on to Japan.
