1926/12/31 - Departed London in the ‘Mantua’ for Singapore

Alexander worked for the ‘Singapore Traction Company’ as ‘Rolling Stock Engineer. Until 1932 i/c rotary converter sub-stations, then 1 year in control of  maintenance, of over 100 trolley buses.

1932/08/06 - Alexander married Jean Jackson in Singapore

1933 - They were blessed with a son, Euan David Cameron.

1933 - Alexander was responsible for maintenance and repair of omnibuses.

Returning to Scotland to visit relatives.

1935/08/14 - Alexander and family departed Southampton, England in the ‘Jutlandia’ for Singapore.

Alexander was a Sergeant in the 1930s with the Scottish Company 1 Straits Settlement Volunteer Force.

 

1938 - Alexander and Jean were blessed with their second child Lachlan Alasdair Cameron, born in Singapore.

In May 1941 he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenent in the Singapore Royal Engineers (Volunteers).

 

1941/12/08 - Japan invaded Malaya by landing troops close to the Thailnd Malaya border.

Attack_Launched

Euan was in was in England with relatives when Malaya was invaded. Jean and Lachlan escaped by boat and returned to Scotland via Australia, Canada and England, where they joined Jean's sister.

1942/02/15 - Alexander was captured Singapore

Some Internees were moved to Sime Road Camp in May 1944.

 

Repatriation

1945/11/24 - Arrived at Southampton from Malaya in the ‘Ranchi’.

 

Post War

Alexander survived the war was repatriated to Scotland.

1946/05/11 - Alexander returned to Singapore in the ‘Sumaria’ as an engineer and again worked for the Singapore Traction Company.

 After Jean and Alexander returned to Singapore, Jean taught for a while, believed to be at Raffles Girls School.

Alexander was a Member of the Singapore St. Andrew Society

On retirement, Alexander and Jean returned to Scotland and lived in St Fillans and Comrie.

Son Euan had no children but Lachlan has three, Sarah, Christian and David.

 

Alexander died aged 71 in 1969 at Comrie, Scotland.
