Joined No.6 Platoon, B Company ,3 Straits Settlement Volunteer Force as and then transferred to 1 Straits Settlement Volunteer Force

 

Pre War

Moved to Singapore in 1928 and was an Assistant, McAlister & Co. Ltd, Gresham House, Battery Road, Singapore [1935 Directory] then Branch Manager, McAlisters, Penang.

His wife, Ethel Mary WOOD was evacuated with their son and daughter on the ‘Ulysses’, arriving Fremantle, Western Australia on 31 December 1941.

 

Japanese POW

Joseph was captured Singapore and taken to Borneo with E Force 28 March 1943.

 

Died

 Age: 37

 16th September 1943

Died of septicaemia in captivity at Kuching
