Bill never fully recovered from his ordeal, physically or mentally.
It was pleasing to see another Exeter survivor, Harry Buck, at the funeral. Bill and Harry were together in the Exeter, and in the p.o.w. on the Celebes, and remained pals on their return to Blackburn, Lancs. after repatriation.
