Service

Enlisted and sent him to Dunkirk with a wooden gun because they had none to give him.

Grateful to the salvation army who gave him a cup of hot coco and an orange when he was rescued from Dunkirk.

When Herbert got back from Dunkirk, because he was a skilled instrument engineer, he was posted to Squires Gate Blackpool to manage an engineer works which made parts for aircraft.

His mates were posted to Singapore and were captured by the Japanese.
