Surviving the war, William returned from Burma in terrible health, and through his recovery at Preston Hall, he fell for one of the nurses, whom he married. Phyllis and William had five children.

Father of Christine, Patricia, Alan, Marian, Robert.

Grandchildren are Charlotte, Claire, Amy, Luke, Joely, William, Tamara (step grandchild by marriage), Zoe (step grandchild by marriage)
