Died when the Rukuyu Maru was torpedoed and sunk by US submarine Sealion off East Hainan island at around 5:00am, Lat 18.0 N Lon 114.0E. Those who died also included Brig. Varley (Aus.) Col.Harry Melton (USA). Gp.Cap. J.W.c. Moore
