Taken prisoner by the Japanese after the Battle of the Java Sea. Prisoner on Celebes, liberated by HMS Maidstone, Mon. 24th September 1945 from Macassar. "The cost of  a thing is the amount of life which is required to be exchanged for it.". Died aged 62.
