Son of George and Mary Read in Warwickshire in 1899


1914 - Enlisted as a boy soldier aged 15 and 122 days.

Served in the RHA during WW1

1920s - Stationed in Egypt

1927 - Married in Cairo whilst serving in K Battery RHA.


1938 - Re-enlisted as Lt. (QM)

Royal Artillery

118 Field Regiment


Japanese PoW

1942/02/15 - Captured when Singapore surrendered in February.



Interned at Changi and Towner Road.

1942, November - Promoted to Capt. QM

1945/09/02 - Liberated

Transported to Australia initially, suffering from Stomach Cancer, sent to Chester Military Hospital.



Aged 47

1946 September 11th
