William enlisted on 15th July 1939, with the Blackwatch, when he was 15, he served with them until 14th May 1954 having taken part in the ‘D’ Day landings and then part of the occupation forces in Berlin.

William then served with the Gordon Highlanders from 11th March 1955.

In 1955 he led 96 dancers at the 1955 Edinburgh Tattoo and then flew out to Cyprus the next day.

William was a Sergeant in the 1st Battalion of the Gordon Highlanders until his was discharged on the 12th February 1959.

In 1968 William emigrated with his family to Australia, where he became an ambulance driver and spent the next 25 years saving lives.

In Australia he became a hero with papers writing of his exploits.

 

Died

5th July 2008

 Australian papers wrote a glowing tribute.

William left a loving wife Helen, loving children Angela(dec), Gordon, Fiona.

7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

 Always in our thoughts.
