NEWNHAM, Colonel, LANCERAY ARTHUR, G C, M C, Middlesex Regiment and British Army Aid Group. 18th December 1943. Age 54. Son of Lt.-Col. Arthur Tristram H. Newnham and Ekaterina Newnham; husband of Phyllis Edith Newnham, of Downderry, Cornwall. 1. A. 58. The following details are given in The London Gazette of April 18th, 1946: "Awarded the George Cross for most conspicuous gallantry in carrying out hazardous work in a very brave manner."

Lt. Col. Lanceray Newnham, together with Capt. Douglas Ford, Royal Scots, were executed by the Japanese whilst prisoners of war for their parts in successfully contacting secret agents and organsing escapes and other disruptions. They were arrested along with others and subjected to torture and starvation and sentenced to death in the hope of making them talk. They remained silent and were eventually executed. Both were posthumously awarded the George Cross for their bravery.

NG CHUNG SZE, Private, Royal Army Service Corps. 19th December 1941. Age 43. (Served as W. JONES).  Husband of Lo Yuk Chi, of Kowloon, Hong Kong. 6. C. Coll. grave 12-19.

 

NG HAN CHUEN, Volunteer, British Army Aid Group. 31st October 1944. Sp. Mem. 1. E. Coll. grave 1.

 

NG PO LAU, Corporal, 3040. Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps. 25th December 1941. Age 37. Husband of Ng Lo Sin May, of Hong Kong. 5. A. 17.

 

NG TAK CHEUNG, Volunteer, British Army Aid Group. 31st October 1944. Alternative Commemoration - buried in Diamond Hill Cemetery. Sp. Mem. 8. A. 11.
