Killing of 47 PoWs Riam Road

  • Date - 10th June 1945
  • Names - Unknown
  • Nationality - Indian & White PoWs - British and Perhaps Australian
  • Location of Graves - Riam Road, Graves Unit exhumed bodies
  • Action Taken - Statements obtained from 6 Chinese witnesses. There were statements taken from 23 Japanese implicated. All Japs implicated are apprehended. copies of files with own HQ & HQ 9 Div.

Robery at Riam Road

  • Date - 18th May 1945
  • Names - Unknown
  • Action Taken - Two Jaoanese committed this robery, statements were obtained from them. File to 9 Div & own HQ. Incident reported to BBCAU Miri

 

Beating of Indian Arasu Singh

  • Incident - March 1945
  • Action Taken - Statement taken from Lt Okimura. Other Jap concerned believed dead. No action recommended

 

Killing of 28 Civilians

  • Action Taken - Statements were obtained from 13 Japanese. They were all Kempei Tai except one, a civilian who helped with the killing. All Japs concerned were apprehended with exception of two who are dead.

      • Unknown
  • Nationality - Chinese
  • Location of Graves - Not known, one body thrown in river
  • Action Taken - Statements obtained from Jap who did killing. File to 9 Div War Crimes Officer for action if necessary.

  • Date - 27th June 1945 - Pangarron Piniku
  • Names:-

      • Cpl Mamat Kaan - Indian
      • L/Cpl Abdul Rahaman - Indian
      • SPC Mendikan - Indian
      • SPC Jelaldan Khan - Indian
      • SPC Abdul Majit - Indian
      • SPC Alidad - Indian
      • SPC Nur Mohammed - Indian
      • SPC Munsafda - Indian
      • Rakha Khan - Indian
  • Location of Graves - Pangarran Piniku
  • Action Taken - Statements taken from 10 Japs who were implicated. These 10 were arrested. Statements also from 2 japs and 1 Indian.

 

Killing of 5 PoWs

  • Date - 18th June 1945 - Lutong Bridge
  • Names:-
      • Chir Singh - Indian
      • Karum Singh - Indian
      • Lal Singh - Indian
      • Unknown
      • Unknown
  • Location of Graves - Bodies thrown into river
  • Action Taken - Statements taken from 6 Japanese. All arrested.

Beating to Death of Lachman Singh

  • Date - 9th December 1944 - Lutong
  • Names - Lachman Singh
  • Nationality - Indian
  • Location of Graves - Lutong
  • Action Taken - 5 Japanese implicated. 2 are dead. Statements obtained from two witnesses.

Killing of 8 Chinese

  • Date - 17th June 1945 - Lutong Bridge
  • Names:-
      • Fung Choi - Chinese
      • Lai Sim - Chinese
      • Ah Chee Ong - Chinese
      • 5 Unknown
  • Location of Graves - Bodies thrown in river
  • Action Taken - Statements from 7 Japanese and 4 Chinese witnesses. All Japanese implicated are arrested. There is some doubt as to actual number killed.

 

Torturing of Chinese Lai Tek Sung

  • Date - April 1945 - Miri
  • Names - Unknown
  • Nationality - Chinese
  • Action Taken - 3 Japanese confessed to torture. They were arrested and made statements.

 

Beating of Javanese

  • Date - March 1945 - Lutong
  • Names - Unam
  • Nationality - Javanese
  • Location of Graves - Unknown
  • Action Taken - Perpetrators cannot be traced.

 

Alleged Killing of One Chinese

  • Date - 6th June 1945 - Brunei
  • Names - Than Voo
  • Nationality - Chinese
  • Location of Graves - Miri
  • Action Taken - Local doctor states Than Voo died of natural causes. No action recommended.

 

Killing of 3 Chinese and 5 Malays

  • Date - June 1945 - Brunei
  • Names:-
      • William Wong - Chinese
      • Ah Siang - Chinese
      • Teo Kok Meng - Chinese
      • Ali Hassan - Malay
      • O K K Steapakti - Malay
      • Juval - Malay
      • Taha - Malay
      • Haji Hasham - Malay
  • Location of Graves - Originally buried Kuilap later exhumed and buried Brunei
  • Action Taken - Jap perpetrators ascertained but yet apprehended.

 

Torture and Death of Chinese

  • Date - March 1945 - Brunei
  • Names - Ang Sim Po
  • Nationality - Chinese
  • Location of Graves - Brunei
  • Action Taken - Statements bt 5 local inhabitants. Jpa perpetrator CPO ITO responsible. File given to 9 Div War Crimes Officer for action.

 

Death by Torture of European

  • Date - April 1945 - Brunei
  • Names - Weir
  • Nationality - European
  • Location of Graves - Brunei, later exhumed under orders from C I C
  • Action Taken - Statements by 3 local inhabitants. CPO Ito responsible. File given to 9 Div War Crimes Officer for action.
